November Music Units
Kindergarten/ 1st Grade: Students will be learning lyrics to the songs, "Snowman Jump" and "If I Could Fly Like a Snowflake". These songs will combine movement, singing, and keeping a steady tempo. 2nd/3rd Grade: Students will be learning lyrics to the songs, "Winter Fun", "Sing a Song of Winter", and "Over the River". These songs will incorporate movement, dancing, singing, and the use of instruments. Students will be singing in rounds and groups. 4th/5th Grade: Students will be learning lyrics to the songs, "First Day of Winter", and "Season of Bells". Along with these songs, students will be performing a song (chosen by Ms. Fowler) by using instruments such as bells, boomwhackers, and possibly drums. Drama: Students are learning and exploring the history of Ancient Greek Theatre. From there, we will progress toward reading excerpts from a Shakespeare play, and then learning to write our own scripts which may be performed at the Winter Rock Fest! Band: Students are progressing through the band book. We are hard at work every day by "Maximizing Playing Time". We have now learned 3 notes, and are working on different rhythms and ways to count and play these notes. We are working on preparing our pieces for the Winter Rock Fest! |
Attention all Band Members and Parents! We are starting an after-school Percussion Ensemble every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30! Any interested band student will be able to play and perform by using percussion equipment! If your student is interested, please sign and send back the permission slip. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (586) 808-1859 or 77.dfowler@heritageacademies. |
Physical Education:k-5 This month in physical education students will be introduced to physical education. We will learn procedures and expectations and also play some fitness games while doing this. Students will play fire and ice, sharks and minnows, and cat and mouse. These games are designed to increase students’ heart rates and are also very fun. Have a wonderful month and welcome back to school.
ML Middle level physical education (health and fitness, ml p.e.) will be focusing on expectations and we will start our first round of fitness testing. This will allow students to know exactly what their fitness level is right now. We will also begin working on ways to improve and maintain fitness levels. Students will test three fitness components; cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscular endurance. Students will take four tests. These tests include the sit – up challenge, the sit and reach test, the pacer test, and the mile run. Have a great month and welcome back to school.
